About Us

Who we are

We are a relatively small group of hang glider pilots who are based across Scotland (and the north of England) and we enjoy getting out flying whenever we can. Often our most active months are April through to September when the weather is best, but we are always looking for flyable weather.

What we do

Hill Flying:

We launch from a number of hill sites across Scotland, accessing the hills by public roads, private tracks that we have negotiated permission to use, and chair lifts.

Dune Flying:

Scotland is renowned for its incredible beaches, and there’s certainly no shortage of wind. Dune flying is a great way to get your feet off the ground whilst enjoying the smooth coastal air.

Winch Launching:

We closed down our aerotow operation at Balado Airfield a few years ago due to costs and complexity. To maintain an alternative to hill launching, we have established a winch launching operation, currently based at Portmoak Airfield, with the kind permission and cooperation of Scottish Gliding Club. We are still in development phase but, after 2 separate training weeks in 2025, with much appreciated assistance from various established winch groups from down south, we are in a position to operate autonomously, in full compliance with BHPA operating procedures.

We currently have 2 qualified Winch Coaches and 2 qualified Winch Operators and plan, in 2026, to increase these numbers in order to enhance our operational capabilities.
